Chowder House in Gold Beach

We ordered halibut fish and chips and fried oysters. They served a generous portion of halibut and a dozen oysters. We couldn't eat it all. The restaurant was right on the bay with boats coming in. Doesn't get any fresher!

Stopped here on our road trip on the Oregon coast. I had the chowder in a bread bowl, which was good, and my wife had the fish and chips, which were excellent. We would eat here again.

Food was good. Service was good.

The chowder was good. Fish and chips not so good. I like lightly battered fish not greasy and tasteless. Fries was good and the N.Y cheesecake with caramel topping.

Great Chowder.. tastes like homemade, creamy and hot! Fish n chips was also very good, the house made tartar sauce was super!

Very good food. I had the Crab Melt on sourdough, which was AWESOME!!! Large pieces of real crab. My friend Rose had the Crab Sliders & was very pleased. Will definitely eat there again. Maybe hire a few more staff so the wait time isn't so long... other than that, 5++ rating from us.

Everything was excellent, the only one thing is they should ask upfront how to split the bills and not a bill for the whole table.

I had chowder and crab cake sliders chowder was pretty good except for a little too much butter in it the crab cakes had sliced onion in them and I didn't care much for that otherwise they were good

Best clam chowder. After traveling all over New England and the east coast, this spot was on point with their chowder. Wasn't just a bunch of potatoes and cream.

Clean, comfortable place with both counter service and seating. Friendly waitstaff. The Fish and Chips were fresh and tasty. However the #1 clam chowder was terrible. It had been overthickened and was full of huge lumps of thickener. Hardly any clams, no vegetables other than a few pieces of potato. Unfortunately also no flavor.

Enjoyed the quiet atmosphere. Fish and chips were good. Waiter was friendly.

The service was good. The girls were very nice. However, the chowder was awful. It had hardly any clams or potatoes, and was very heavy on the celery. I love chowder. I've made my own, and I've also eaten it all along the coast of Oregon, and I won't ever eat it here again.

Nice little seafood restaurant. They were out of chowder at the time so I can't report on that but my kids liked the food. They have GREAT customer service! We'd stop in again!

I went in with a group of people on vacation. We were all well dressed and clean but the girl behind the counter refused to serve us. The restaurant was empty other than one table with a group at it. She said "how many?" We told her 8 and she replied " oh um, we don't have room"

Walked in with my family at 3pm on a Friday to an empty resteraunt. The only employee we saw hustled out of the back somewhere to ask us how many? When I answered that there were eight of us she retorted that she didn't have enough room. The whole place was empty except for one table. I waited for her to finish with something along the lines of, "but I can push a couple of ta les together or something". When she just stood there hoping we would leave, I told her that was fine and told my family we wouldn't be eating here. I hope the owner of this business decides it would be better to not hire dead beat employees who can't even dress somewhat professionally. I didn't pay that close of attention but I remember black lipstick, lots of piercings and an exposed midrift. Hopefully, this is a one off and isn't the normal for this business. It looked like a great place but I hate being treated like garbage because I have a big family. Shame on them!

I wish I knew how good the food was before I drove all the way to Crescent City. I was disappointed. The food was way better here.

Wow, the clam chowder is amazeballs!! Fresh local fish, excellent service even lthough it was end of night and busy, the staff was amazing!

Location is great! The building is nice too. I really want to like this place because the atmosphere is great. But the food? Just okay.

The service was terrible. What kind of dress code is that basketball shorts boots and a old shirt. The other guy tie dye shirt shorts. Not even friendly at all. The food was even worse. Clam chowder was just ok. The fish and chips the fish was dripping with grease and let a gross after taste in my mouth. My kids got chicken strips and french fries. Chicken strips where burnt. I get better food at DQ and way cheaper.

It's typical Cafe food. The clam chowder was good and the staff was nice. They make fresh fudge in an assortment of flavors- bonus

Killer Reef burger was the best burger I'd had in quite a while. Clam chowder was excellent and my husband had the fish tacos, which also didn't disappoint (if you like spicy). Interior very cute, cozy, and comfortsble despite being in middle of adding a unique specialty olive oil tasting bar. I'm looking forward to trying that on our next trip. Friendly staff also deserve a shout-out.

Quality food, very good. I was surprised by the crab cake slider... NO FILLER, all crab! Can't beat that! I think it's a bit spendy, but overall a nice meal.

We had both dinner and breakfast here. The chowder and the burger was great . For breakfast my wife fot rhe chef special which was quiche which was wonderful. The staff for both dinner and breakfast was outstanding. So friendly and attentive. Highly recommend and id you stay at the Pacific Reef Hotel you get a discount.

If a negative 5 in customer service and the potential for severe food poisoning is what you are looking for, you have found the right place!Upon arriving at this establishment for a late lunch (2:30), I was a little shocked when the extremely discourteous individual who came out of the back informed our small group she just wasn't sure she had room for us. Had the restaurant been full, or at a busy time, I suppose I would have understood how 8 clean cut people on vacation would be a burden to squeeze into a restaurant that boasts good for groups. However sadly this wasn't the case. The restaurant was empty except for 1 table. In the long run maybe I should be greatfull, perhaps we narrowly escaped food poisoning or worse. As this person clearly had poor hygiene and was more than likely not going to care about the handling of anything that came our way. If customer service means anything to you at all just avoid this place!

Amazing service! The waitresses are friendly and very welcoming. They chatted with me, provided advice on the menu and even gave me road safety advice. Stopping here was by chance and I'm impressed. The fries and burger I ordered was delicious. The kids had chowder and chicken nuggets. The kids loved the food here. The fudge pleased the kiddos for the rest of the trip too! Side note: the place was very clean. The bathroom was clean and warm. The decor entertained my toddler and wasn't overwhelming, visually. This is a cute restaurant with pretty good food. Prices are reasonable as well.

First experience was AWESOME! I was really impressed that so many of their items are from scratch and made IN HOUSE! I could immediately tell! Normally, I'm not a big fan of tartar sauce. I just eat my fish and chips with vinegar. Here, however, I WAS DIPPING MY FRIES IN IT!! DELICIOUS! My husband's fish tacos were RIDICULOUSLY delicious, too!! My mother-in-law has food allergies, and when the plate, accidentally, had an additional item on it that she couldn't eat, the server immediately took it back with many apologies and they made a brand new one and delivered it with MORE apologies. None were needed, as she is used to it, but they were very appreciated. I was immediately looking forward to my next visit! A true DIAMOND IN THE ROUGH!!! Good Job, Chowder House!! A+++

Service was fantastic. Very friendly staff. Food came our quickly. Between my husband, our son, and myself, we had the crab cake sliders which were steller, the fish and chips, one of the better in the area, a grilled cheese, and the crab spinach dip with house made chips (soooo good). BONUS not only do they have ice tea, but the option of sweet tea or southern style sweet tea!

We were on vacation and stopped in to try this place. The hostess told us she didn't know if she'd have room for our family. We do have a large family, but the place was empty. Only one table with people at it. The rest of the whole place was empty. I guess she just didn't want to serve our family. Too bad because it sounded really good. The thing is, when you treat a large group poorly, you should expect a large amount of negative reviews.

Great service, excellent food. Super nice resturant & very clean. I was skeptical because of the 3.5 rating but so happy we didn't pass it up. No complaints at all -food was great, service was excellent, value was great as well. You won't regret stopping here for lunch or dinner.

Simple quaint restaurant. Very friendly and quick service. Restaurant was nearly empty when we went so noises echoed and when another group came in that was loud my table had to almost shout to hear. They could possibly add some decor that also doubles as a sound deadener. However the more important part, the food. All the food was quite good. Caesar salad dressing was well done, tartar sauce was good. Clam chowder was very good with very tender clams, it was a touch under seasoned but not terribly. Crab slider was very good and did not scrimp on the crab. Fried clam strips were very good and tender and even the kids menu mini burgers looked hand made and were cooked right not way over cooked like you see many times. We would definitely go back next time we are in the area. The prices were fair as well.

Just wow. The calm chowder was off the hook. Had the Pacific sampler, which is all the things and good. Service was great. Stop for a pint and a snack!

Great service, delicious food and not too pricey. And very hot and fast. We had dinner and breakfast there. Limited menu, but the beer on tap Arches Brewery Rogue Chocolate Stout was delicious. Too bad we can't purchase it by the bottle.

Super friendly, the best clam chowder recipe (imho), and the fish taco spice sauce was just the right amount of heat. Chill and casual.

My wife really wanted to have Chowder. She took two bites and pushed it away. So I tried it. What a let down, Chowder is the name of the place. The waiter finally came by to ask about the food. Guess he heard it before, he instantly took it off the bill. The other items we ordered were just OK, nothing more. Also, as I am sure you have found out already Gold Beach has no fast food places.

We stayed at Pacific Reef and ate breakfast here. I had the biscuits and gravy with breakfast potatoes and sausage, and my wife had an omelette with breakfast potatoes. I was fortunate to get the second half of my wife’s omelette, and everything was delicious. It is a counter service place and not a diner with wait staff and everything, just FYI.

After a not so good experience, we came here very hungry. Not only was the staff super friendly- but they were upbeat and made great suggestions! I ordered the clam chiwder bread bowl :))) The food was really nice, and very filling. We will 100% be back!!! Thank you 💜💙💛❤❤

TERRIBLE SERVICE. waited an hour for food, didn’t get 1 refill of water, got up and left after an hour and they immediately went and picked up our waters like they were waiting for us to leave. HIGHLY recommend not going there.
